It’s an incredibly exciting time to be launching a company focused on digital creators and experiential artwork. Some of the world’s most prestigeous galleries have made major commitments to the medium launching large scale shows. Two that we’re eager to see are the Team Lab show at Pace Gallery Menlo Park and Electronic Superhighway at Whitechapel in London.
Renowned Pace Gallery launched Pace Art + Technology, a “program dedicated to collaboration with interdisciplinary art groups, collectives and studios whose works explore the confluence of art and technology.” Their first show, features celebrated Japanese collective Team Lab, who refer to themselves as “ultra-technologists” whose practice seeks to “navigate the confluence of art, technology, design and the natural world.” The immersive exhibition covering 20,000 sq ft, opened recently in San Francisco to great fanfare and huge sales (according to the Wall Street Journal).
Across the pond, celebrated London gallery Whitechapel, debuted ‘Electronic Highway: 50 Years of Media Art (2016 – 1966)’ which the Creator’s Project deemed “an important retrospective.” The exhibition which The Economist says “looks at how artists have responded to technology and change” features media artworks by over 70 artists, covering multimedia, computer art, photography, sculpture and many other genres, and artists including Nam June Paik, Cory Arcangel, Constant Dullaart and others.
